Our client is a sector leading distribution company offering end to end order fulfilment, distribution, warehousing, logistics and supply chain solutions. They operate a 340,000 sqft facility from which they supply the largest of multinational online retailers, national retailers and wholesalers on behalf of their partners.
We’re seeking an experienced Operations Director to cover maternity leave (7 months), joining a highly skilled and talented team during peak season. As Operations Director, you will have proven senior management experience in a highly dynamic setting and have the transferable skills required to operationally manage a 340,000 sq ft distribution and warehousing facility. Your organisational, communication, and leadership skills will be second to none and you will enjoy driving efficiencies and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with local leadership to realise the operational plans and contribute to planning the implementation of projects including a Warehouse Management System.
Objectives & Responsibilities
Day-to-day operational oversight and management of a large warehouse, logistics and distribution facility, its operations and management teams
Management of 5 Direct reports and overall responsibility for the site workforce in excess of 260.
Collaborate with executive-level management in the delivery of performance goals and operational plans
Maximize efficiency and productivity through interdepartmental collaboration
Provide a supportive leadership environment where a competent team can discuss and debate operational and site challenges in order to make collaborative decisions
Support the team in realising an efficient and successful peak season through effective use of resources and management of a changing landscape
Work with local managers in the development of financial and budgetary plans and ensuring their adherence
Monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles for key activities
Monitor and analyse key metrics relating to the performance of the operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks
Skills and Qualifications
5+ years senior leadership role in the appropriate field
Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, logistics, supply chain, and employee management
Organisational, communication, and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous professional success
Strong working knowledge of relevant regulations and legislative guidelines
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience working within a 3PL business or closely related industry
Experience with budget and business plan management
